Story of an old man in the city of Kuala Lumpur

One Facebook User said: "This morning bought about 60++ pieces from uncle..now these 3 left.."

His name is Uncle David!

"爱玩pokemon 者,与其浪费时间去玩那个游戏, 你来KL uptown pj hsbc bank 前面, 和这个uncle买pokemon 公仔,一只RM10,捐给他,因为他有癌症。又可以得到你的神奇宝贝😁😁😁 "

Those who loves to play pokemon, you may delay your play and come to Kuala Lumpur uptown Petaling Jaya, in front of HSBC bank, and purchase pokemon figurines with this uncle. Each cost RM10, which will donate to him, because he had cancer. And you can get your amazing baby toys!

A 65-year-old man who previously caught the attention of many social media users for selling soft toys in front of a bank in Uptown Damansara, Petaling Jaya, has seen a sudden spike his business after a netizen posted about his battle with a life-threatening disease.

The man, known as Uncle David, was reportedly diagnosed with leukaemia in March last year and had since been praised for showing determination and courage in the face of adversity, according to the report.

Uncle David reportedly sells soft toys to pay for his chemotherapy treatments and put his son through college touched the hearts of many Malaysians after his moving story of triumphing over adversity surfaced.

People reportedly travelled from Klang, Gombak and even further away from Penang, Malacca and even Singapore to patronize Uncle David's stall.

"Seem uncle's business is not as good as expected. Still a lot more to grab for today. Those who are nearby. Please go to support him"

Now thanks to the recent Pokémon Go craze, Uncle David's business has seen another big spike in demand as orders for 100 and even 300 sees his Pokemon toys snapped up in a matter of minutes.

Despite being told by his doctor that he only had about six months to live, Uncle David never gave up on life even while struggling to pay for expensive chemotherapy treatments.

His determination to stand on his own two feet and earn a living while fighting terminal illness has moved many to tears with another Facebook user commenting on Uncle David's battle with leukaemia in a posting earlier this year.

"My heart breaks at this - a 65 year old man with leukaemia should be at home resting, not peddling wares on a pavement to make ends meet on a day to day basis.

"We always say we want to fight the system, but sometimes it's about making life a little better for one person. It might not be much, but maybe by buying a toy from Uncle David today he can go home a little earlier and rest an extra hour.

"So please, please, please if anyone is in Damansara Uptown please do support Uncle David and send some love and light along his way," Alea Nasihin shared in the Facebook update.

It is understood that Uncle David has rejected many monetary offers from well-wishers, including a Buddhist association which had wanted to provide financial aid for him.

“I told them to give it to others because I still have the ability to work and fend for myself. I do not need money from others,” the daily reported him as saying.

“A kind woman once paid me RM300 but I refused to take the toys. Instead, I asked her to take 30 toys from me. I told her I’d made RM90 based on a RM3 profit from each sold.

Uncle David asked the woman to take the toys to an old folks’ home to brighten up the days of those living there.

“When we are blessed, we need to share it,” he said.

For our readers who are thinking of heading over to Damansara Uptown to get themselves a soft toy, you should be aware that Uncle David's Pokemons have been known to sell out to good Samaritans and eager buyers in less than 30 minutes after he opens his stall outside the HSBC bank branch at 11am!
